Seaside frolics at Bexhill-on- Sea, caught on camera by
A charming trio of images show the late Victorian/ Edwardians
enjoying their time on the coast, paddling and posing by a rowing boat.
more modest there is a bathing machine which allowed the person wishing to swim
or immerse themselves in the sea the privacy to change .
The machine would then
be hauled into the waves where the occupant could step into the water then back
again without exposure to onlookers.
Queen Victoria used one of these machines
on the Isle of Wight when staying at Osborne House Her island home.
