The advertisement is a very poignant item from the good old firm - and one or two of we former employees have managed to keep pristine copies of it.
The interesting thing is that the particular coach shown - AEC Reliance with Burlingham "Seagull" body - was taken over by West Yorkshire Road Car Co. Ltd. with the Ledgard business on 15th October 1967, but was not used. It was sold to Tony Edwards, Tony Jewson and Eric Waller - these three men immediately established Independent Coachways of Horsforth, with just that one vehicle initially. I drove it on its very first journey for Independent - an evening private hire to Hebden near Grassington. As is well known locally, Independent soon became a very successful and thriving business until the sad and early demise in 1987 of Tony Edwards, in his forties and after a long and cruel illness.
The business was then bought by Thornes of Bubwith, and now Hemingbrough, and continued at Horsforth for many years before being finally absorbed into the Hemingbrough premises.
