Arthur was brought up in the Cragg Wood area and was the son of Nathaniel Briggs, a partner in Milligan Forbes and Co. The latter bought large tracts of land in Cragg Wood and substantial homes were built there. Nathaniel lived in Daisy Hill and Cliffe Cottage and had Cragg Royd built for Arthur, who later also became a partner in Milligan Forbes. Rawdon Hall was also a Briggs property and Arthur, after becoming a Bradford Councillor and Justice of the Peace, lived there at his death in 1892. (Taken from "A History of Rawdon" by D.C. Willcock.)
