"Milady's Mending Compact" is a reminder of the time when lisle stockings were precious and would be carefully mended to prolong their use.

The 1st knitting machines were made to produce stockings (late 16th Century ), yarn used varied from silk, linen, wool and cotton.

Lisle is a polished cotton thread and was most commonly used until the advent of rayon and then nylon in 1940.

There are a variety of different shades in the packet, it was sold for 2d by young ladies of Queen Street Chapel, Yeadon, for a sale of work.

It is one of the many interesting artefacts in the collection of Aireborough Historical Society.
