The envelope is addressed to Mrs D L Slater of 13
Granville Terrace and stamped "Passed Field Censor".
The notepaper has the
YMCA insignia and is dated Jun 8th 1916. The writing is a little difficult to
read in places :
"Dear all, I have got another parcel today ? with the
flashlight? Diary ? etc. I think the diary will be plenty big enough for my
requirements you see I have no big engagements or anything so far ? I don't need
a big one.
I don't think you can send anything more Mother,
because I am alright here and expect we shall be here for a week or two yet, so
I don't think you have any need to bother at all.

I am sorry the field card took so long to come,
you must have been a long time without any word at all but never mind, they
always say "No news is good news" and I think this is going to be a letter with
no news because I can't think of anything worth writing about.
I think you must be missing some of my letters
Mother, because I got the photos a long time since --------- ?
I may have slipped something in I shouldn't have done
and it's been destroyed so there is only myself to blame, but you must let me
know if anything has been crossed out. I think I shall have our --------- ?
Well I think that is about all this time, but I
will remember my letters forever.
From your loving son and brother
