Guiseley: The half yearly cattle fair was held at this place on Monday last and at the same time prizes were given by the Agricultural Society to the best ploughers in their respective classes.

Mr Oliver of Harewood and Mr Anderson of Bingley were the judges.

There were 18 entries and some excellent ploughing.

A large number of the villagers were on the ground to witness the competition.

     The awards were as follows :-

Men above 18 years of age -

      1st £2 Alfred Stubbs, Eccup

       2nd £1 Charles Penrose, Carlton

       3rd 10s   Joseph Shadlock, Carlton

Boys under 18 years of age -

       1st £1 Chas. Davy, Norwood

        2nd 10s  Thom. Booth, Menstone

Extra prize to be competed for by former winners of the first class  

       £2 John King, Carlton

        The committee and judges afterwards sat down to a substantial dinner provided by Mrs Popplewell of the Red Lion Inn, in her usual good style and a most agreeable and pleasant evening was spent.
