The Fast Day was generally observed by
the inhabitants of Guiseley, most of the shops and mills were closed and
business almost entirely suspended.
A collection in aid of the sufferers by the
Indian mutiny amounting to £6. 14s was made by the Parish Church (St Oswalds)
after an appropriate sermon by the Rev. W Clark, Rector.
Confirmation - A confirmation was held
in the Parish Church on Thursday Oct.1st at two o'clock in the afternoon,
when, after an impressive address by the Right Rev. the Lord Bishop of Ripon,
his Lordship confirmed 94 young people from the townships of Guiseley, Yeadon,
Rawden and Baildon.
