      Guiseley - On Whit-Tuesday.

The Ancient Shepherds of the Loyal Abel Lodge held their seventh anniversary at the house of Mr C Popplewell at Guiseley, when members sat down to a most excellent dinner.

After the cloth was removed the doors of the "Lodge" were thrown open for the admission of strangers, when a number of the wives and sweethearts  and others made their appearance and contributed much to enliven the scene.

Several songs and duets were sung during the evening by the Messrs. Hudson and Booth &c and the comic entertainments of Mr Stead, of the Concert Rooms, Yeadon went off with great eclat and the company retired highly gratified with the hilarity and good feeling manifested on the occasion".

Hi
Do you know the address of the Popplewell house?
I am trying to research the history of my house at 25 Park Road. I am desperate to know when it was built but my deeds only go back to 1955. I have seen your photo of the 1900 aerial photo and it's certainly there then. Ed and I thought it may be from about 1840.
Is there any way your records can help me? Or point me in the right direction.?Thanks. Lil Jenkinson
Ps Eddie helped photograph maps with you til he died in 2016.

Hi Lilian, I will forward your enquiry to our archivists and hopefully they may be able to assist. We will be in touch either way. Please allow some time due to Covid catch up work currently being undertaken.
Kind regards,
Jack Brayshaw.
AHS.
