The
woollen cloth manufacturers residing in the Parish of Guiseley have formed
themselves into an association called "The Parish of Guiseley Association
for the prevention of Embezzlement of Wool, Waste &c and also for the
furtherance of other objects which may be conducive to the Interests of the
Woollen Trade in general"
It is intended to
allow apprentices and other young persons who have had the thrums (uneven ends
of warp threads or nay short loose ends ) as perquisites threepence a piece in
lieu of such thrums and to discourage the practice of itinerant waste
collecting, the fruitful source of robbery and fraud
