"The most noble the Marquis of Hastings who came of age on the fourth
inst. transmitted the sum of £10 to his tenant on the Rawden estate, requesting
that the Minister, Rev. A Ibbotson should assist in the distribution of the
money to the poor of that township, which has been done accordingley.
We understand that the bounty of the noble donor was very judiciously
applied and was received by the partakers of it with great thankfulness".

Francis Rawdon (1754- 1826 ) became the first Marquis of Hastings, it is
presumably his son, the 2nd Marquis of Hastings which this article refers to.
The title became extinct in 1868, the 4th Marquis had lost all his wealth paying
off gambling debts and left no heir.
