1795: Bolting Horse, Rawdon
Singular Occurrence - On Tuesday, as a
young gentleman named Thompson, from Rawden was riding on horseback down Swan
Street in this town, his horse shyed at a waggon and he consequently dismounted.
A few moments afterwards the animal
bolted into the kitchen of Mr Mallorie, the spirit merchant, through which it
passed into the dining room and in the excess of it's fright broke the windows
and every chair in the room but one to pieces, tore the valuable carpet
literally to rags and did other damage to the amount of between £20 -
£30.
