Further text by Christine Lovedale :
The bells of the Parish Church of St Oswalds have been
rehung and added to over time, Canon Howson Rector of Guiseley 1906 - 1934
wrote about 2 bells being taken from St Oswald's Church in Leathley and brought
to Guiseley "How they were brought is a constant wonder to me. I suppose
by Otley and above West Chevin and down over Guiseley Moor" One could
speculate that the newspaper appeal refers to the bells arriving in Guiseley.
There were only 3 bells in
the church tower in 1846, then in 1847 a full ring of 8 bells were cast and
hung by C & G Mears of London. A century later 8 bells were recast and hung
by Gillett & Johnson of Croyden.
