"On Tuesday morning last, a youth about
13 years of age, son of George Paget, card-maker at Rawdon in this county, was
sent on horse-back to lead a young unruly horse to Adwalton fair ; the morning
being very cold the youth tied the halter which held the led horse round one of
his arms and put his hands in his bosom to keep them warm; but before he had
got a quarter of a mile from home the young horse took fright at something and
giving a sudden jerk with his head he pulled the boy off the other horse and
dragged him quite home again and unfortunately killed him.
One George
Paget, an old man from Yeadon hearing of the above went the same morning to
console with the youth's parents on the occasion and dropped down dead on his
return home"
