10th February 2016: 609 (West Riding) Squadron celebrated the 80th
anniversary of the squadron, Royal Auxiliary Air Force.
It was formed on the
site of the airport on February 10th 1936 as a bomber squadron, during WW2 it
acted as a fighter squadron.
It is now based at RAF Leeming where it acts in
anniversary guests included the Lord Mayor of Leeds, the Lord Mayor of Bradford
and Greg Mulholland MP, serving and retired members of the squadron.
enjoyed a vintage afternoon tea then watched a low level fly past of 4 Hawk
Aircraft from RAF Leeming.
