Members of AHS (then called the Aireborough & Horsforth
Museum Society) visited Bolton Castle near Leyburn.
The castle was built by
Richard Le Scrope between 1379 - 1399, it is still owned by descendants of the
Mary Queen of Scots was held
prisoner there in July 1568 by Queen Elizabeth 1st, she remained for six
months, being moved to Tutbury in January 1569.
She remained at Tutbury for 18
years until her execution in 1587.
