was born in 1916, the daughter of Edward Marshman, the family lived on Miry Lane
in a cottage which was rented from Eddie Denison of Westfield Mill.
South View School until 1930 when she left aged 14.
For the next few years she
had a succession of jobs in local mills and factories which she hated, loathing
the dirt and noise until 1939 when the 2nd WW began .
By then Mabel had married
and found what was for her a dream job working in the Silver Library which she
did for 6 years.
She was a talented writer and produced several volumes of dialect poetry
Cam' t Clattergate
history was another interest and she contributed articles which were published
in a series of books edited by Martin Rigg :
