The church was built in 1839 by William Rookes Crompton Stansfield of Esholt Hall.
It cost £800 and was intended to be used as a private family chapel, since 1983 it has been in the combined parish of Guiseley with Esholt.

In 1983 the Parish was amalgamated with Guiseley to become the Parish of Guiseley with Esholt.
