5th December 1846: Foot Race for £100 - On Monday last, a foot race for £50 a side, between Robinson of Guiseley and Hinchcliffe of Thornhill, came off at Gildersome. Robinson took the lead and kept it to the end, winning by a few yards

6th December 1845: "Foot Race - on Tuesday a Foot Race for £20 was run on the road from Shipley to Bingley, between Robinson of Guiseley and Robertshaw of Thornton, near Bradford, when Robinson defeated his competitor by four yards, the distance being run 120 yards. The Bradford man was a decided favourite at starting and a good deal of money changed hands. "
