Yeadon - On Monday the Refuge Lodge of the Grand U O of Oddfellows held their usual anniversary at the house of Mr Joseph Long, the Clothiers Inn, Yeadon, when 180 members sat down to an excellent dinner.

This Lodge is in a highly flourishing state and it is gratifying to find that the working classes thus unite to provide for themselves a fund upon which they can fall back in times of sickness and distress and in case of death to provide for their necessary interment.

In the village of Yeadon there are no less than nine of these institutions numbering upwards of 1,500 members.

On the same day the Wesleyan Methodist Sunday Schools held their anniversary and the teachers and scholars (about 767) were regaled with tea and buns.

The number of teachers in these schools are 415 who give their services gratuitously in addition to which they defrayed the expenses of the anniversary.

The teachers and scholars of the Wesleyan Association of Sunday Schools also held their anniversary on the same day".
